about

ceramic basel is a fair unlike any other, set at the heart of the most influential week in the art world. Its inaugural edition will bring together the presentations of 65 leading international galleries, held together by one shared vision: celebrating fire and māteria.

celebrating fire & māteria

ceramic basel brings emerging practice and age-old craft together across two main sections:

  • the fire section, celebrating the arts of fire: ceramics and glass. It gathers gallery presentations of modern, contemporary and historical ceramic work.
  • the māteria section, devoted to material in sculptural practice — from textile and wood to bronze.

manifesto

ceramic basel is a living manifesto for the tangible, celebrating the singular alchemy of fire and material in an increasingly virtual age.

The fair is a contemporary showcase for the revival of the arts of fire, and for the vitality of practice in the fundamental media — textile, wood, stone. It also shows how deep the roots of these crafts run, and the genius of the artists who have worked them across the centuries.

The fair is led by Gilles Parmentier and Jean-Marc Dimanche, the duo behind ceramic brussels, the first contemporary art fair dedicated to ceramics (Brussels, January 2027).

a prestigious and strategic setting

ceramic basel takes up residence in the Messe & Congress Center Basel, right in the middle of the city (21 Messeplatz). That exceptional address puts the fair inside the intense programme of Basel Art Week. ceramic basel will also have the privilege of welcoming Art Basel’s VIP collectors, guaranteeing it international attention and visibility from opening day.
